Because we spend so much of our waking hours at work, we have a huge emotional attachment to our chosen occupations but as long as we have the opportunity to develop we will be excited at the prospect of what we can achieve every new day of our working lives. There are of course some workers who are perfectly happy to punch in without ever learning anything new and for this category, job termination will be particularly traumatic, because without constant evolution, where is the joy in our working lives ? In any event, thankfully, this latter category of employee is rapidly becoming extinct.
Many of our very best friends are work colleagues – we build great friendships in the workplace, which when the termination occurs can be equivalent to a death in the family. True friends will always be friends no matter what, but what you will probably discover is that you will usually be able to count that group on one hand in times of adversity.
Surprisingly, despite the inevitable pain of job termination, it can bring about really invigorating change. Finding yourself at a crossroads in life, although terrifying, forces you to dig deep and to draw on the great skills and resolve that you own deep down but have not recently been utilizing as a result of the cosy familiarity of your job complacency. Just imagine for a moment the thought of never ever going into that job that you have stagnated in for the last several years. This presents a great opportunity to evaluate your new goals in life as you free yourself from that “Stuck in a Moment” feeling.
So, as you turn a new blank page on the next chapter, the rest of your life and its consequent opportunities is all ahead of you. You can turn any negative situation into a positive one as long as you explore the multiple alternatives with an open mind and a positive approach. If you have nothing, you have nothing to lose and it is possible that you might end up in a wonderful place that you could never have dreamed of had your hand not been exercised by the Job Termination.
